What are the policies?
The Tea House Spa is place of wellness, healing and relaxation. To ensure all guests receive their treatments in comfort and safety, the following policies are strictly enforced. Alcohol, smoking of any kind, drugs, and cell phone use is prohibited in out facilities. Candles, incense, playing audible music (headphones are permitted), and glass containers are not permitted in our spa rooms. We ask that all conversation in our spa facilities be respectfully maintained at a low volume. In order to maintain the calming energies of the Tea House, service may be permanently discontinued to guests who do not comply with our polices.
Where are you located?
We are located at 112 Elm Street in downtown Santa Cruz. The Tea House is just around the corner from the Catalyst and our entrance is across the street from the back entrance of Streetlight Records.
How early should I arrive for my appointment?
Ten minutes before your reservation is usually enough time to get you checked in, a pot of tea steeping and to use the restroom facilities. If traveling from out of town please consider the amount of traffic that might delay your arrival.
How late are you open?
We are open from 11am to 11pm Monday through Thursday and 11am to midnight Friday through Sunday. Our last spa room appointment begins at 10 pm Monday through Thursday and 11pm Friday through Sunday. Our last massage appointments end at 10 pm 7 days a week.
Do I need to make a reservation or do you take walk ins?
Reservations for the tub rooms are recommended but not always necessary. There is no guarantee space will be available without a reservation. If you are booking a massage, a reservation is required (our massage therapists are on-call and will need to be notified at least 45 minutes in advance.) We ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes before your reservation time to ensure you receive your full appointment.
What do I need to make a reservation?
You will need to give your name, phone number and a valid credit card number to hold a reservation.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you are making your reservation one or more days in advance, we require 24 hour notice for any cancellation or change (in time or day) of massage appointment, and 3 hour notice for spa appointments, to avoid a FULL charge for late cancellation or time change of the service. If you make the reservation less than 24 hours in advance, you have 15 minutes past the time you booked the reservation to call back with any cancellations or changes to avoid the full charge.
What is your tub and sauna room?
It is a private room that includes a spa tub, shower, and sauna. All tub rooms look out into our garden. Fresh towels, hot tea and filtered cold water are complimentary with the room. The rooms are supplied with Bonny Doon shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. If you are also booking a massage, you will be provided with a basket containing a robe and spa slippers.
How long can I rent a spa and sauna room?
The rooms are available in 50 minute sessions. If available, you may book for two consecutive 50 minute sessions. 30 minute sessions are only available as an addition to massage appointments.
Do you have outdoor or communal tubs?
No. All of our tub rooms are private and indoor with shoji doors opening onto our historic bamboo garden.
Do I need to bring a swimsuit?
No. Our private tub rooms are clothing optional.
What is the Couples Special?
The Couples Special is two individual one hour massages and a one hour shared spa and sauna room. The price is $190.
Where do we park?
We do not have our own parking. We are surrounded by metered street parking and there are several pay-by-hour city lots nearby. There is a blue change machine at the corner of Elm and Pacific if needed. All meters and lots operate until 8pm.
How many people can be in a tub room?
We allow up to four people per room. More than four is a safety hazard.
Do you have steam rooms?
No. Our saunas are dry and do not come with water buckets.
Can we bring in food and drinks?
We ask that you do not bring any outside food or drink into our facility. Glass containers and bottles can be a safety hazard and food can attract unwanted pests.
Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes. You may purchase them at the Tea House, online, or over the phone with a credit card. Please note that if you purchase over the phone, you will need to provide an address to which we can mail it. We do not hold gift certificates at the Tea House. Do you take credit cards?
Yes. Payments may be made in cash or credit. We do not take checks.
